TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, officers at the Port of Nogales seized methamphetamine and fentanyl in a drug smuggling attempt yesterday.

CBP Officers at the Dennis DeConcini Crossing referred a 48-year-old Mexican national for further inspection of his Nissan SUV when he attempted to enter the U.S. from Mexico Wednesday morning. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to a scent it is trained to detect, officers removed more than 70 packages from a non-factory compartment in the vehicle’s floor. The contents were identified as more than 80 pounds of meth, with an estimated value in excess of $240,000. Officers also seized more than half a pound of fentanyl, worth more than $8,000.

Officers seized the drugs and vehicle. The subject was arrested and then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
